When you walk through our Brew House doors, we hope you will get to know our brewers, learn how our beer is made and discover its history in every corner of our building. And while you're here, we hope you enjoy a nice cold Genesee Beer with a friend or two and lift your glasses in celebration. Since the 1970s, Genesee has sponsored race cars and raceways, including Warren Agor, who drove car number 13 around stock car tracks all over upstate New York. While the bowling alley is long gone, the current Genesee Brew House still occupies buildings from the original Reisky & Sky brewery campus.

SCEDs can be referred to as ‘personalized (N-of-1) trials’ when used this way, but they also have broad applicability to a range of scientific questions. Results from SCEDs can be aggregated using meta-analytic techniques to establish generalizable methods and treatment guidelines (Shadish, 2014; Vannest et al., 2018). Figure 1 presents the main family of SCEDs, and shows how personalized (N-of-1) trials fit into these designs (Vohra et al., 2016). The figure also distinguishes between experimental and nonexperimental single-case designs. In the current article, we provide an overview of SCEDs and thus a context for the articles in this special issue focused on personalized (N-of-1) trials.

Single-subject research, by contrast, relies heavily on a very different approach called visual inspection.

During the baseline phase, they observed the students for 10-minute periods each day during lunch recess and counted the number of aggressive behaviours they exhibited toward their peers. They found that the number of aggressive behaviours exhibited by each student dropped shortly after the program was implemented at his or her school. In one version of the design, a baseline is established for each of several participants, and the treatment is then introduced for each one. Perhaps something else happened at about the same time as the treatment—for example, the student’s parents might have started rewarding him for good grades. One solution to these problems is to use a multiple-baseline design, which is represented in Figure 10.3. There are three different types of multiple-baseline designs which we will now consider. People do not all change at the same rate or in the same way, however; variability in both how people change and the effect of the intervention is inevitable (Fisher et al., 2018; Normand, 2016; Roustit et al., 2018). These sources of variability are conflated in a typical RCT, leading to heterogeneity of treatment effects (HTE).

Grieving children, teens and adults deserve the opportunity to experience the healing process in a safe, warm and nurturing environment. The healing process is enhanced through the friendships and connections that are developed in support groups. Despite protests from her children, fifteen-year-old Kris (Shannen Doherty); twelve-year-old David (Chad Allen); and eight-year-old Molly (Keri Houlihan) they, Jessie, and their basset hound Arthur leave Fort Wayne, Indiana, to start a new life in California. As they settle in with Gus, they realize just how difficult he can be to live with. The majority of the plots each week centers on the conflicts which tend to arise when an extended family must live together in the same house. As man of the house, Gus imposes rules on his three grandkids the same way he had raised John (and also John's brother Ben, who is seen in a two part episode); ultimately, however, he learns ways of conveying lessons to the kids without being gruff.
